VenTech VTSPEED Variable Dial Router Fan Speed Controller for Duct and Inline Fans

Don't use this for a fan
This control works... after a fashion. I wanted it to control an inline booster fan. That is what it was sold for. When it came, I discovered it was made to control speed on a router... a completely different type of ac motor! I tried it anyway and at the lower settings the fan pulsed continually, leading me to believe the motor would self-destruct before very long. I put it up on a shelf, maybe I will need to control a router some day.

Controls fan speed but it's finicky
First of all, I read a lot of speed controller reviews where it was clear that the user had an incompatible fan. So, I want it to be known that I definitely have the right type of fan. In fact, the fan I have is a Ventech, which is the same brand as this controller. I plugged the fan in and went to "VAR" to control the speed. However, the fan just stayed off. I turned the dial and nothing happened. Then I switched to "FULL" and the fan turned on. I guess to get this to work you have to switch to "FULL" first and then to "VAR" with the knob all the way up. Then, you turn down the speed gradually. If you move the knob too quickly or change settings to quickly, the fan just shuts off. It's finicky like that, but you can get it to work.
